Hello ThermiTight, Goodbye Jowls!
You know how you can’t unsee a flaw in the mirror? Meet my jowls. Jowls is a funny word that becomes depressing the more you say it. Jowls. Jowls. On good days, with my head held at an angle and with a shade-shy-of-frantic smile, I suppose I could have passed muster. But in the harsh glare of my bathroom mirror, all I could see was Droopy Dog.
*Hint: the fact that I’m old enough to even know who Droopy Dog is, should give you a clue as to my dilemma.
When my dermatologist, Deborah H. Atkin, M.D., of Del Mar, suggested ThermiTight®, a non-invasive therapy for tightening up the jawline, I was intrigued. ThermiTight® uses radiofrequency heat to tighten and tone skin and loose skin. With a fine probe, Dr. Atkins delivered temperature controlled energy to target specific areas along my jaw, neck and chin.
The procedure took under one hour and was very comfortable—tiny injections numbed the treatment areas. (Additional fluids used during the therapy also anesthetize the areas being treated.) Dr. Atkin suggests you wear a compression garment for 24 hours after the treatment, so I stayed home the day after. Then I was back to my normal, busy routine. I had slight swelling and tenderness for about ten days—though no one noticed. I wore the compression garment as much as I could (i.e. when no one was around) for the first three days, and slept in it for a week.
I cannot imagine ever going through cosmetic surgery—but I would do this procedure again in a heartbeat. My jawline and neck are tighter and I look better every day!
