Cyst Removal

Cysts are small hard bumps that reside just beneath the skin. Cysts can contain fluid, air, or solid material. They are usually found around the face, neck, scalp, and torso. Most cysts are harmless; however, when they occur in certain locations, cysts can be painful, and in rare cases, malignant. If you think you may have a cyst, try not to touch or attempt to remove it yourself. This could further infect the cyst and lead to swelling and potential scarring. Dr. Deborah H. Atkin will evaluate your condition and diagnose the cyst by its appearance. In some cases, she may request a biopsy to rule out other possible conditions. The sebaceous cyst can be removed surgically, and is usually treated in our office. Acne cysts may often be treated by minor injections leading to rapid resolution.

Always consult your dermatologist when detecting any type of growth or irregularity on your skin.
