Botox vs. Dysport

Should I have Botox or Dysport? This Is a question asked in our Del Mar dermatology practice on a daily basis.

Botox has long been the name patients recognize when it comes to injectable wrinkle reducers. Dysport, the newer kid on the block, is gradually becoming a more known product when patients are researching injectable options.
I like to think of the two products as “Coke and Pepsi”. Both as darkly colored, sweet tasting, fizzy beverages. But while I prefer the taste of Coke, you may prefer the taste of Pepsi.

When it comes to choosing the product that is best for you, it often comes down to personal preference. I took a poll in our office, and it was split right down the middle. Half of the staff favored Botox, while the other half favored Dysport.

Just what is the difference between Botox and Dysport? Here is a chart (click to enlarge)to help answer this question and more.

The largest tilting factor for most patients when deciding which wrinkle reducer to use is cost-savings.  Often times it will come down to which product may be offering rebates, or if the patient has loyalty points to convert into same-day savings.
Both Botox (Allergen-Brilliant Distinctions) and Dysport (Galderma- Aspire Rewards) offer $20.00 in points when you have a treatment.

These points can accumulate and be used for future treatments of any products within their portfolio. It becomes a matter of the more you purchase the more you save.
