How to Choose the Right Dermatologist

Talking to people you know and trust is a great place to start in your search for the right dermatologist. Ask family, friends, and your other healthcare providers for recommendations. Once you have referrals, take the time to research the doctors’ credentials and experience.

It is always important to select someone that is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a member in good standing with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

You will also want to consider what your dermatologic needs are. Do you just want someone that can perform a general skin cancer screening every year? Do you have a chronic skin condition that needs treatment periodically? Are you seeking someone to help with cosmetic concerns such as lines, wrinkles, and sun damage?

A general dermatologist will treat rashes, acne, and rosacea. They do skin exams to check for questionable moles, and they can help with issues such as thinning hair.

Cosmetic dermatologists specialize in laser skin resurfacing treatments, skin tightening procedures, chemical peels, and injectables.

Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar is accustomed to treating both general dermatology and cosmetic dermatology patients. Our professional staff has years of training and experience in treating most skin conditions and providing excellent care for your cosmetic needs.
